Note:  The conference will be videotaped. Please see the image release agreement that you may choose to accept or decline during online registration.  If you prefer not to be videotaped, remind the staff at registration check-in and you will be seated accordingly.

Note: There are a limited number of ADA rooms available so please limit these requests only if necessary. There are a number of rooms with walk-in showers, which may be sufficient for many attendees.

Shuttle Service From Airport to Hotel:

Complimentary hotel shuttle service is available. It is generally on a continuous loop that picks up every 20 minutes. Prior arrangements are not required. If a guest would like to inquire about the status of the shuttle they can call 615-883-9770.

Accommodations: If an individual can stand and get into the shuttle, the driver can fold  and transport the wheelchair. Unfortunately, lifts are not available on hotel shuttles.

Friday, October 13

9:45 – 10:15 a.m.  Welcome and Ice Breaker

10:15 – 11:00 a.m.  Opening Session: MSA: An Overview – Dr. Horacio Kaufmann & Dr. Lucy Norcliffe-Kaufmann
This introductory session will address the progression of symptoms, steps toward diagnosis and a research overview, including current studies and how to participate.

11:15 – 12:00 p.m. Support Group Meeting – Patients and Care Partners

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Lunch

1:00 – 1:45 p.m. Workshop Session Slot 1

2:00 –  2:45 p.m. Workshop Session Slot 2

3:00 –  3:45 p.m. Workshop Session Slot 3

Note: There will be two or three sessions per time slot and selected sessions will be repeated.

Workshop Topics:

Allied Health: A guide to practical strategies at home. PT/Speech/Occupational Therapy

Speech/Diet-Nutrition: This session will address speech, swallowing, nutrition, when to consider a feeding tube and relevant information.

Practical Planning: Guidance will be offered on how to file for disability insurance, plan for caregiving and financial needs, prepare for advanced directives/living wills, last wills, and brain donation arrangements.

Creative Arts:Research supports the benefits of the creative arts in neurological disorders. Enjoy some strategies and get a taste of music, dance, and art therapy.

Urology Workshop: A discussion of current treatment for urology issues related to MSA along with a demonstration of selected techniques for at home care.

How You Can Help: Many families want to be proactive and empowered as they battle MSA. Strategies to generate awareness, to start a support group, and effective fundraising techniques will be discussed.
