The MSA Coalition Leads The Way In Generating Awareness For MSA

The Multiple System Atrophy Coalition is committed to building awareness for multiple system atrophy. As a very rare disease people often only hear about MSA if somebody they know is affected. As such, it is imperative for our community to participate in and share information and stories about MSA with their network.

Multiple system atrophy awareness is important to the cause. Being a very rare disease, multiple system atrophy can feel like a very lonely condition for those affected. From finding doctors who know how to manage it, to the daily struggles of a disease no one you know has heard of, life with MSA can be isolating.

Why Awareness Efforts Can Help

By raising awareness of rare diseases, we can improve early diagnosis, encourage policymakers to increase access to services and fund research into rare diseases, as well as reduce the feelings of isolation or the discrimination faced by patients.

Awareness efforts can take many forms both big and small. One of the most effective awareness method every MSA family is encouraged to be involved with is fundraising. Community walks, golf outings, bowl-a-thons, and more, serve to get people involved and engaged in the cause, and they have the added benefit of being very effective fundraisers. Even online fundraisers with no live event attached to them are great for awareness. They are super easy to set up (usually takes 10 minutes or less) and when shared via email and social media can bring in donations and messages of support. Individually these efforts might seem small but over the years our team of volunteer grassroots fundraisers have created important awareness within their networks and have now raised millions of dollars for MSA research and education.

MSA Coalition Selected for NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats Campaign

The NFL is helping raise awareness of the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition as part of its annual “My Cause My Cleats” campaign. Washington Football Team player Jon Bostic has selected the MSA Coalition as his cause for this national awareness and fundraising campaign. Bostic will wear his MSA Coalition customized game cleats on Monday, December 7, at the Washington Football Team vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game.

The 2020 season will mark the fifth year of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats initiative. On Monday, December 7, at the Washington Football Team vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game at Heinz Field, Bostic will be among the select Washington Football players wearing custom designed cleats that would normally fall outside the league’s usual dress code.

The initiative encourages NFL players to use this event to raise awareness for the myriad of different charities. The Washington Football Charitable Foundation will be auctioning off select players’ and coaches game-worn cleats to support their chosen non-profit organizations.
